A book a day until Christmas

It's December 1st! Countdown to Christmas

By Christina Almaguer December 1, 2022

My kids are 2 and 4 years old and they share a bedroom. We get ready, and they get into bed, and then I read 2 books every night. Now that we are in December, before we start to get ready for bed, the kids get to open a new book as we count down to Christmas. This Christmas will be the 3rd Christmas we follow this tradition. Tonight, our first night of the countdown in 2022, was "Frosty the Snowman". I usually alternate a Christmas book one night and a non Christmas book the next so that I also have books to add to our nightly reading collection throughout the year. Also, I try to get bedtime friendly books because I'm not reading anything too long as I'm on my last leg at bedtime, you parents know what I mean. I've spent the last month finding books to add to our countdown and I think, at least right now, we as parents are more excited about this tradition than the kids are. It's true what they say, everything is more magical through your child's eyes, and I couldn't agree more. The look on Jacoby's face in 2020 when I gave him Little Blue Truck's Christmas and he found on the last page that the Christmas tree lit up, I also watched his eyes light up, and thankfully I also got a picture to always look back on.

The holiday hustle has begun but I love this tradition that reminds me to slow down, read the book, and watch them enjoy the holiday magic!
